Dewi in New York: “Even the cliché intern assignments were super fun.”

I think New York City is the most incredible city on earth. It’s divided into five boroughs, which all have their own character. Me, I lived smack in the middle of Manhattan in Webster Apartments, something I’d recommend because I met around 30 Dutch girls on my first day there. New York is super diverse and I didn’t sit still for a moment. In your spare time, you could go shopping in Soho and on 5th, rooftop chilling, wandering around Central Park, go to a Broadway show, walking the Highline towards Chelsea and Greenwich, party at the most exclusive clubs or go cultural in Brooklyn.

Beautiful experience

I loved my internship! The best was working on the Coterie Tradeshow. I helped selling our brand’s fashion to international buyers. Furthermore, I assisted at photoshoots a couple of times. People always listened to my opinion and having Manhattan in the background, this was a beautiful experience. Of course, I had to do cliché intern tasks too, like picking up and dropping off samples. Even these assignments were super fun, cause they gave me the chance to explore NYC during work hours.

Top three moments

I didn’t sit still for a second in NYC, truly, every day was special. If I’d really had to choose I’d name the Yankees baseball game where they won and played “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra at the end, seeing the Broadway show The Phantom of the Opera, and that time Afrojack played club Marquee as my top three moments.

My tips for students

For women, I’d absolutely recommend staying in the Webster Apartments, sorry no boys allowed… Here, you will build a network of fun connections within days and you don’t have to worry about cooking or cleaning: ideal! Next to this I recommend you to, if you like to party, connect with promoters. Knowing them you can go to dinners and parties in the most high end restaurants and clubs for free! Thirdly, I recommend going to baseball or basketball games and to visit a Broadway show. Truly unique experiences. Finally I’d say, if you’re in NYC for a long time, definitely go on a trip to Washington and to Boston or Cambridge.

Experience

A 10/10!! I’ve had the time of my life in NYC and it was worth every penny, nobody can take that experience away from you.
