Sun!

It seems like the nice weather also got to Sweden. This month I went to a lake with friends several times. As mentioned earlier, the city really comes alive as soon as it’s sunny. The beach is a one and a half hour drive from Borås, so that is why we always go to the lake when the weather is nice.

Student house

I enjoy every evening in the house where I’m living. It’s nice to share stories with others and to eat together. Everyone cooks for themselves normally and then we eat together around a big table. It’s nice to share food as well and to live together with different nationalities because you get to learn a lot about other cultures. I have a few roommates from Indonesia, France, Finland, Iran, Syria but particularly from Sweden.

Textile city

Borås is the textile city of Sweden. This is the reason why it became such a big student city because the schools for textile studies are located here. A great benefit for the people and students in Borås is that there are often many outlet sales in and around the city. You’ll find store and webshop outlets regularly.

Marstrand

The nicest place I’ve visited in Sweden is Marstrand. Marstrand is located at the coast, in the west of Sweden. Only a few ferries go from and to the island so cars are not to be seen. The island is calm and has many walking routes and a big castle. There are many different places to swim and the view is amazing. I can really recommend to bring a visit to Marstrand.

What else?

The research for my internship is going as planned. I handed in my first concept and now I have to wait until my study advisor in the Netherlands gives me feedback on this. The weeks are flying by and I honestly look forward to hand over my definite research in June.

In May I also visited the countryside of Sweden. Really nice to get a taste of the Swedish habits and ways of living in the countryside. The houses are located at least a kilometre away from each other, there are no paved roads and it’s far away from a supermarket.

In the Netherlands there have already been many sunny days, but there were unfortunately only wet snow storms in Borås during May.

As a surprise for my birthday my office was completely full with balloons and decoration. During the coffee break we ate cake and my colleagues were singing ‘Ja, må du hon leva’ (happy birthday) for me. Afterwards they took me out for lunch and I got the gift to go to Liseberg (amusement park).
