What did you think of the city?
New York is a fantastic city. I felt completely at home, met amazing people, and unfortunately had to leave many friends behind. But not for long, because I’m going back!
One of the reasons I had such an amazing experience was the place where I lived: The Webster Apartments, on 34th Street between 9th & 10th Ave. An incredible location! The building houses around 370 women (no men allowed), and breakfast and dinner are included. Everyone eats within set times, which makes it really social. Your bed is made for you every day, and once a week, there’s a full room cleaning. For everything you get, it’s really affordable, and if it’s your first time in a big city like this, it’s a great place to meet people. I highly recommend living there!

What did you think of the internship?
My internship was really fun. The company had a very relaxed atmosphere, everyone was incredibly nice, and colleagues got along really well. Interns were supported, and they made sure we always had meaningful work to do, which was great. Of course, sometimes you have to do less exciting tasks, but that happens in every company. Overall, I felt that they really appreciated my work, and the quality of my contributions was recognized.
Another great thing about the company is that they love to celebrate! If someone had a birthday, for example, everyone would gather in the kitchen at 3 PM sharp for a toast with a beer or wine. And by 5 PM, everyone would leave the office to find a fun bar to hang out at.
I also had an amazing goodbye party with all my colleagues, along with a card where everyone wrote something sweet. It was all truly fantastic, and I was really sad to leave. But I’m definitely going back! I will probably start working at my internship company again while looking for another job. They made it clear that I’m always welcome as an intern, and if a job opening comes up, I’m more than welcome to apply. It’s reassuring to know that when I return, I’ll already have a way to earn some money.
What was the most special experience you had?
The whole experience itself was truly special. But something I also really enjoyed about New York was the nightlife. I met a few promoters who got me into clubs for free and provided free drinks all night. The only costs were for the taxi or subway—ideal! Personally, I also prefer the music and atmosphere in New York clubs over those in the Netherlands.
Do you have any tips for students?
Stay at The Webster! You’ll naturally meet great people and even promoters! Plus, you won’t have to worry about meals or cleaning your room, which is a nice bonus.
What rating would you give your experience?
I’d give my experience a solid 10! It was fantastic.
