Hi everyone!

To be completely honest, I don’t even know where to start with this update. So much has happened over the past few weeks, I just don’t know which part is the most fun to tell!

Orcas off the coast of Vancouver Island

I felt at home at my internship very quickly. My colleagues are super nice—we often grab a drink together at the brewery around the corner on Fridays, or we plan something fun on our days off to explore Vancouver and its surroundings. It’s great because almost no one working here is originally from Canada, so everyone’s eager to get out, do fun things, and see new places. Plus, it’s a great way to learn about other cultures, which I find really interesting!

I also got to organize a company outing in October, which turned out to be surprisingly fun! We went bowling, had a delicious dinner, and played games at one of the venues. Since the people from the different locations don’t really know each other, not many had signed up in advance, but in the end, more people showed up than expected—and everyone had a great time! So for Christmas, we’re going out for dinner with the whole company!

Hiking with one of my roommates

Together with Ryan and Elwin, my bosses, we set goals for the company’s future, and from there I started coming up with projects to help achieve those goals. In between, I also help out making coffee at different locations and sometimes lend a hand in the kitchen with prep work if needed. That way, I really get to know the entire company, which is super fun! It’s quite a small business, so I get every opportunity to learn and try different things, and that makes it all the more interesting. Plus, I have weekends off, so I still have plenty of time to explore the city, thankfully!

My German friends

Vancouver is still amazing, and now that I know my way around, it really feels like home. I have three lovely roommates who I actually met through Facebook before coming to Canada. They were originally looking for someone to stay for a whole year, and I was only staying for half, so at first it didn’t seem like it would work out. But once I arrived and they still hadn’t found anyone, we met up at a coffee shop, instantly clicked, and I got the room after all! So lucky! We eat together a lot and do fun things—brunching, playing games, and discovering new restaurants and coffee shops are definitely our favorite activities.

I also met two German guys at the hostel where I stayed during my first week here, and we hang out a lot. They’re staying in Canada longer too, and we arrived around the same time, so it’s really nice to have someone going through the same experience. Now that I’ve made good friends, it truly feels right being here—one of the best decisions I’ve made so far in life!

In my next blog, I’ll share some fun tips in case anyone is thinking of coming to Vancouver, and I’ll also tell you about the road trip I did through British Columbia with my parents—which I’ll probably have plenty to say about!
