What did you think of the city?
Rome is a very beautiful and unique city. It’s always alive, and there’s always something to do. Whether you come for the history, the food, the nightlife, shopping, or nature, you’ll find it all there! The people who live there are very nice, very different from the Dutch. They also have a very different and unique culture, which adds something extra to Rome that other cities don’t have.
What did you think of the internship?
The internship is very educational. It’s not something I want to do in the future, so that made it a bit harder and less interesting, but it’s still doable! My colleagues are very kind and helpful. My boss and supervisor are also very nice. This makes it all a little more enjoyable, and if you want to go into web marketing later on, this is a great internship!
It’s always alive, and there’s always something to do.
What is the most special thing you’ve experienced?
On such an adventure, you experience all sorts of things! Some things stick with you, while other things that seemed special at first become so familiar that they turn into habits. I don’t have a specific event that stands out, but you definitely need to stay open to special occurrences, because that’s when you often experience the best moments!
Do you have tips for students?
If you want to come here, you need to be able to adapt easily. Learn a few words of Italian (you don’t need much because most people speak good English). Save up well in advance because it’s an expensive city. Rent a scooter and take a few days to tour around Rome. Make sure you stay in a nicer neighborhood (e.g., Parioli) because otherwise, you’ll have a lot of trouble with beggars and other undesirable elements (e.g., San Lorenzo). Make clear agreements because otherwise, things with Italians often don’t come through (lots of talk but little action).
