What did you think of the city?
I think the town of San Agustin is okay. It’s not big, but it’s good enough to live in. There’s a supermarket, shops, and plenty of nice places to eat. For more excitement, I go to Playa del Ingles. That’s also where I always go out, to a place called Kasbah.
What did you think of the internship?
I really enjoy my internship. I learn something new every day. I get plenty of guidance from the employees and other interns. There are more interns staying at the hotel, mostly Dutch, and it’s very fun being together. You’re far from home and everyone is in the same situation, so you quickly become friends with everyone. You really become like a family. Going out together, doing fun things during the day. It also helps that you always share a room with someone. I have two super fun girls in my room, and we’ve really become friends.
When going out, you should say that you’re an employee, because then you get worker cards at most clubs and bars. This means your drinks are free. From the hotel where I stay, it’s a 5-minute taxi ride to Kasbah, and the taxi costs €5.
My main tips are: enjoy and go with the flow.
What was the most special thing you experienced?
The most special thing I experienced was my birthday on March 4, 2015. I had asked everyone if they wanted to go out with me. First, I went with my roommates and another girl who often hangs out with us to drink at the Scandic bar in Kasbah—not knowing if the people I invited would actually come. When we arrived at China White, already quite a bit drunk, everyone was waiting for me! We were allowed into the V.I.P. lounge and got two bottles of Champagne and a bottle of Vodka. We partied until the early hours. I can say that this was one of the best nights ever.
Do you have tips for students?
My main tips are: enjoy and go with the flow. Enjoying yourself is very important because before you know it, it’s over. By going with the flow, I mean you just have to go for it and make the best of it yourself. I came here alone and made friends on the very first day. It’s also important to be open to new things because your life here will look very different from life in the Netherlands. Don’t do anything stupid—they tolerate a lot, but if you go too far, you’ll just be sent home.
What rating would you give your experience?
10!!!!
