What did you think of the city?

The city is truly immense. If you want to get around here, having a car is definitely a plus. However, you can also get around reasonably well by bike. Just be careful, as Auckland has very few bike lanes and drivers don’t really pay attention to cyclists. So, it’s best to find accommodation close to your internship. Public transport isn’t great; buses only run once an hour. If you’re near a train station, then the train is a decent option.

The climate here is amazing, the temperature is very pleasant, and winters are quite mild. The city has a lot of greenery and public parks, and there’s plenty to do during the summer season. The city is multicultural, and the people are incredibly friendly.

What did you think of the internship?

My internship was absolutely great! The people are super friendly. I was able to do a variety of activities during my internship, from working outdoors and informing people to developing an educational program on sustainability for the local community.

What was the most special experience you had?

Before starting my internship, I traveled around New Zealand with Topdeck. It was truly unforgettable, and I got to see so much. The highlights were definitely the skydive and the bungy jump. For those who prefer less adventurous activities, Auckland offers Pasifika (a major Pacific festival) and the Auckland International Cultural Festival.

Do you have any tips for students?

Stay within walking or biking distance of your internship in Auckland. Also, visit the Dutch shop in Henderson and take the Topdeck tour! And of course, enjoy the Kiwi life!

What grade would you give your experience?

A solid 9!
