Example Monthly Costs for an Internship in Spain

Spain is a popular destination for internships, known for its relaxed lifestyle, diverse culture, and booming sectors like tourism, business, education, and tech. The cost of living can vary depending on the city — Madrid and Barcelona are more expensive, while cities like Valencia, Seville, or Granada are more affordable.

  • 🏠 Housing: €350 – €800
Rent prices depend on the city and the type of accommodation (shared flat, student residence, or studio). Barcelona and Madrid are at the higher end; smaller cities offer more budget-friendly options.
  • 🍽️ Living expenses (groceries, dining out): €200 – €400
Groceries are affordable, and eating out is common and reasonably priced — especially lunch menus (“menú del día”), which offer great value.
  • 🚇 Transportation (metro, bus, etc.): €30 – €60
Public transport is efficient and inexpensive. Monthly metro or bus passes are widely available. In smaller cities, you can often get around by foot or bike.
  • 📱 Phone and internet: €20 – €40
SIM cards with data are cheap and widely available. Internet is usually included in rent or easily set up.
  • 🛡️ Insurance (health insurance, travel insurance): €30 – €70
EU students can use their EHIC card for basic medical services. Others should get private travel/health insurance.
  • 🎟️ Other expenses (gym, leisure, outings): €100 – €250
This includes fitness, entertainment, day trips, nightlife, or cultural events. Spain offers a vibrant social life for every budget.
