Example Monthly Costs for an Internship in South Korea

South Korea is a popular destination for internships, especially in sectors like technology, education, fashion, and media. It offers a rich cultural experience and modern infrastructure. While costs are moderate compared to Western countries, they can vary by city — especially between Seoul and smaller cities.

Housing: €400 – €900
Most interns stay in shared apartments, student residences (goshitels), or officetels. Prices in Seoul are on the higher end, while smaller cities like Busan or Daegu are more affordable.

Living expenses (groceries, dining out): €200 – €400
Eating out is very common and often cheaper than cooking. Meals at local restaurants or street food stalls are inexpensive, but groceries (especially imported goods) can add up.

Transportation (metro, bus, etc.): €30 – €60
Public transportation is excellent, reliable, and cheap. A T-money card can be used for buses, subways, and even taxis. Monthly transport costs remain low unless you travel frequently.

  • 📱 Phone and internet: €20 – €40
SIM cards with data or local phone plans are affordable. Many accommodations include Wi-Fi, or it can be added at a low monthly rate.
  • 🛡️ Insurance (health insurance, travel insurance): €30 – €70
Private or travel insurance is essential. South Korea has excellent healthcare, but costs can be high for uninsured visitors.
  • 🎉 Other expenses (gym, nightlife, travel): €100 – €250
This covers things like a gym membership, going out, cultural activities, weekend trips, or shopping. Seoul and Busan offer a vibrant social scene.

💰 Total estimated monthly cost:

€780 – €1,720
