Hi everyone!

To be completely honest, I have no idea where to start with this update. So many things happened in the past weeks, I don’t know which one is the most fun to tell.

Killer whales by the coast of Vancouver Island

I immediately felt at home at my internship. My colleagues are very nice and sociable, we often go and have a drink at the local pub on Fridays or go and meet up in Vancouver on free days to discover new things. This is very fun since almost no one who works there, actually comes from Canada. An extra plus is that you get to learn new cultures which is very interesting.
I also got to organise a staff-trip in October and this was surprisingly fun! We went bowling and afterwards we dined and played games at one of the locations. No one from the different locations knew each other so beforehand, not that many people had signed up but  in the end more people came than previously expected and everyone had a blast.

Social Media post for my internship company

Together with Ryan and Elwin, my bosses, we had made goals for the company in the future and from there I started coming up with fun projects that would provide to realising these goals. In the meantime I also helped with making coffee on different locations and every now and again I have to help with the preparations in the kitchen when necessary. This way you really learn about every aspect of the company which is super fun. It’s a pretty small company so I get every chance to learn and do new things, making my internship quite interesting. I’m also free every weekend so luckily I also still have enough time to explore the city.

My German friends

Vancouver is still very fun and now that I know my way around town I feel completely at home. I have three very fun roommates who I had gotten to know through Facebook even before I came to Canada. They were actually looking for someone who could stay in the room for a year but I would only be there for six months, so initially it wouldn’t work. But when I got here and they had not found someone yet, we decided to meet up at a coffee store and it clicked immediately so I still got the room! Safe to say I was very lucky! We often eat together and often go out and do fun things together.

Hiking with one of my roommates

Brunching, playing games and discovering new restaurants and coffee stores are still my favourite things to do. I also met 2 Germans in the hostel where I stayed during my first week that I still hang out a lot with. They will also be staying in Canada for a longer amount of time and arrived pretty much simultaneously, so it is pretty nice to have people who are in the same situation as yourself. And now that I’ve also made some good friends, it feels totally great to be here. It has truly been one of the best decisions in my life so far!

In my next blog I will be giving some nice tips for when someone decides to also come to Vancouver. By that time I will have been on a road trip through British Columbia with my parents, about which I will also be able to tell you plenty about!
